Children with special needs often experience difficulties when it comes to their day-to-day functioning. Their mobility levels will not be at the same level as other children. This has a severe effect on the ability of these children to participate in activities at home, in school or in their local community. Limb deficiencies, genetic disorders, heart & lung conditions, muscle diseases etc. can be some of the conditions that prevent children from being as functional and mobile as others.

Mata Bhagwanti Chadha Niketan (MBCN) Charitable School focuses on children with special needs. We provide a warm and nurturing environment to all children with special needs. Our programmes focus on helping children develop academically. In addition, we enable our children to become confident in terms of their social, communication and self-care skills. We provide training to children with all kinds of learning difficulties – including speech & hearing impairments, physical disabilities, autism etc.

We also offer a physiotherapy program for special children. This regular programme focuses on helping physically-challenged children attain their optimal functional levels. To achieve this objective, the programme includes activities and exercises aimed at:

- Stretching and strengthening the children - Increasing the range of motion of the children  - Helping the children acquire head and trunk control  - Building the endurance levels of the children and, - Helping the children relax

With all the necessary facilities available in-house, each session of physiotherapy for disabled children ensures optimal levels of participation.

Our regular physical therapy programme also focuses on aspects such as:

- Gait training - Sensory integration and, - Gross motor challenging

Our special educators work in conjunction with qualified physiotherapists to conduct all the daily activities that help the children achieve their optimal levels of functioning.

Research has shown that regular physiotherapy sessions for special children can be quite beneficial. They can help the special educators and physiotherapists understand the development of the child’s motor performance. These sessions can also provide an insight into the child’s cognitive development.

With regular sessions of physiotherapy for disabled children, many of these children will:

Register and maintain increases in their muscle strength and endurance levels

  • Show better coordination levels with increases in joint ranges of motion Experience relief from pains, muscle spasms, spasticity, swelling, inflammation of joints etc.

  • Experience better levels of mobility through regular walking or the use of wheeled-mobility devices

  • Experience healing in the soft tissue lesions

  • Show better levels of ability in terms of participating in various daily activities such as play, self-care etc. and,

  • Overcome the risks of suffering from issues such as contracture or the deformity of limbs

MBCN’s physiotherapy program for special children has helped numerous children achieve optimal levels of functioning and mobility over the years. The regular efforts of our special educators and physiotherapists has paid off for many physically challenged children. With superb in-house facilities and proper care, we aim to help many other special children in a similar manner.
